With the very first trailer forObi-Wan Kenobifinally released, fans have gone into hyperdrive with how excited they are. Despite there still being a slight wait until the show is released, the speculation has certainly begun as fans start to digest every little detail and Easter egg they can find in the teaser and geek out about one of the franchise’s most beloved characters.
Ewan McGregor Returns
A good portion ofStar Warsfans would say their favorite thing to come out of the prequel trilogy was McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The actor’s career-defining portrayal brought so much life and emotion to the character which fans were so eager to see more of following the original trilogy.
McGregor returning as the character has been near the top of fans’ wish lists sinceRevenge of the Sithin 2005. Although his voice has appeared in other projects since then, the fact alone that McGregor is back on-screen as Obi-Wan has fans hyped.

Hayden Christensen Is Back
Any time Darth Vader appears in theStar Warsuniverse, it’s always a fan favorite moment. However, it’s extra special to have the actor who portrayed the villain in his younger years,Hayden Christensen, return to play the characteralongside McGregor once again.
It’s been announced that Christensen will play a part in the show, and we do hear Vader’s iconic breathing at the end of the trailer, although it’s not exactly clear how or when he’ll appear. We know he and Obi-Wan meet many years later inA New Hope, but if they meet in this show, which is set ten years afterRevenge of the Sith, it’s exciting to imagine what their interaction could be like, or if it comes to blows.

Live-Action Inquisitors
The new villains we see in the trailer are the Inquisitorius, a group who hunt down the remaining Jedi and force-sensitives after Order 66 for the Empire. Although they may be new to some fans, they have become a large part of the canon thanks to the animated seriesStar Wars Rebels, but it’s their very first appearance in live-action.

A few fans have shared some disappointment with the look of the Grand Inquisitor, however, most are still excited to see these villains, includingMoses Ingram’s new character, Inquisitor Reva, potentially face some Jedi in live-action. Fans can also look forward to seeing more of their headquarters, the Fortress Inquisitorius, which was briefly explored in the video game,Jedi: Fallen Order.
Young Luke
The beginning of the trailer shows Obi-Wan watching over a young Luke Skywalker from afar, which is part of the premise of the series, as he tries to protect Luke from the Empire and Vader. Although the show focuses on Obi-Wan, fans are interested in how much they’ll get to learn about Luke at roughly the same age Anakin was inThe Phantom Menace.
The quick shot of Luke in the trailer also shows he’s pretending to pilot a ship, something he and his father shared a passion for. Some die-hard fans have even speculated he may be wearing Anakin’s old goggles, and are obviously excited to see as much of the famous character as possible.

New Environments
We obviously know some of the show will be based on the iconic desert planet Tatooine, however, the trailer showed hints of an unidentifiable city with some bright neon lights and nightlife which suggests perhaps there are some new environments set to be explored, with fans speculating Obi-Wan may have to temporarily head elsewhere to avoid being caught by the Empire.
AlthoughTatooine has been explored many times, as recently asThe Book of Boba Fett, there are most likely parts of the planet which haven’t been. Fans might also be intrigued to see more of Luke’s home and where Obi-Wan has decided to make a hideout for himself.

Post-Order 66 In Live-Action
When we see Obi-Wan in the trailer, ten years after Order 66 was executed to remove all the Jedi, he’s on the run from the Empire. It’s a part of theStar Warstimeline with a wide range of emotional and interesting stories, with plenty featuring Vader on his vicious hunt for all the remaining Jedi in the galaxy.
Certain fans will have seen a good amount of those years covered in the comic books, however, it’s yet to be explored in live-action. Fans will definitely be excited to see this version of Vader on a mean streak.
Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse Return
The trailer also gave glimpses ofJoel Edgertonreturning as Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker’s step-uncle and guardian. Edgerton last played the character briefly inRevenge of the Sith, alongsideBonnie Piesseas Beru Lars, who is just barely seen in the trailer, however, they were relatively minor roles.
Some fans will have seen more of the Lars’ roles in protecting Luke alongside Obi-Wan explored previously in comic books, and despite knowing Owen and Beru meet their demise inA New Hope, it will be very interesting to see how much the actors can bring to the characters with some more screen time.
A New Score
Star Warswould not be what it is without the music or the man who created most of it, the legendary composerJohn Williams. It has been confirmed thatWilliams has returned to write the themefor the new show and anytime he’s involved, fans are ecstatic.
Some of the franchise’s most unforgettable themes also make an appearance in the new trailer, with fans freaking out after hearing Duel of the Fates, as well as moments from Battle of the Heroes and Anakin’s Dark Deeds. With Williams on board and some new tunes to come, there is plenty to be excited about.
Meeting Other Jedi
It’s possible from what’s shown in the trailer that the Inquisitorious could be looking for Jedi besides Obi-Wan. It also appears Obi-Wan is speaking to someone at the opening of the trailer, telling them to stay hidden, possibly a Jedi.

Fans have speculated Obi-Wan may meet up with other Jedi, maybe one’s we haven’t seen before, who survived Order 66 and are looking for him after seeing his holo-broadcast which he sent out at the end ofRevenge of the Sith. There is also some excitement at the idea of Obi-Wan potentially reaching out to his old masters such as Yoda or Qui-Gon Jinn through the force.
Seeing A Different Obi-Wan
McGregor has admitted this version of Obi-Wan, ten years after the events ofRevenge of the Sith, will be significantly different from what fans have seen before. We’ll likely see a more broken and defeated Obi-Wan who has lost his way and will start to transition more towards ‘Ben’ Kenobi fromA New Hope.
With multiple television episodes, rather than a film, it will be interesting to see how McGregor plays the evolution of the character after he has lost so much of who he is and has had to erase his identity.
