The world as we know it and the world of the MCU are two very different places. When we walk down the street, there’s no chance of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) soaring overhead or Spider-Man (Tom Holland) swinging by with a wave and a quip. Of course, it isn’t all bad.

The Avengers USB Arrow

We don’t live in fear of an alien invasion or a sentient robot turning a country into a meteorite. The biggest downside of not living in theMCU, though, besides not being able to snap a quick selfie with The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) at a diner, is all the incredible inventions the great minds of their universe think up. After all, who wouldn’t want to shrink down to the size of an ant or wield an axe capable of killing the Mad Titan himself?

The USB Arrow — ‘The Avengers’

Granted, this isn’t the most astounding invention in the MCU, and yes, there’s definitely at least one person on earth capable of inventing this ridiculously specific trick arrow. In most people’s hands, this arrow would be utterly pointless. Who could ever fire a single arrow into a USB port? Hawkeye (Jeremey Renner) could, and that’s precisely what he does to hack the helicarrier inThe Avengers.

Trick arrows made a massive comeback in theHawkeyeseries, particularly in the car chase scene, and fans were delighted to see the USB arrow play an enormous role in the finale of Season 1 ofWhat If…?. Maybe it’s more important than we give it credit for.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Iron Legion — ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’

Given the countless incredible things invented by Tony Stark, it’s easy to forget about The Iron Legion, a team of unmanned Stark robots deployed to prevent civilian casualties while The Avengers are elsewhere kicking ass. Capable of combat, flight, communication, and, most underwhelmingly, crowd dispersion, but that didn’t mean people warmed to them.

In fact, crowds inAvengers: Age Of Ultronopenly oppose The Iron Legion, pelting them with anything they can find to throw at them. Their reputation sank even lower when Ultron (James Spader) used a legion member to make his escape. Not Tony’s best work, all things considered.

The Hulkbuster — ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron/Avengers: Infinity War’

When you work alongside a gentle scientist who transforms into a rage-fuelled monster if he becomes angry, it’s best to take precautions. Thankfully for the people of the world, Tony Stark did just that. When Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) manipulates The Hulk and sends him towards civilization, Tony utilizes his Hulkbuster armor to clobber some sense back into his friend in what is easily the most entertaining scene of the film.

The Hulkbuster armor then made a second appearance inAvengers: Infinity War, in which it was worn by Bruce Banner so that he could still fight like The Hulk without actually being able to transform into him. A win-win situation, really.

The Helicarrier — ‘The Avengers/ Avengers: Age Of Ultron’

Though Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Bruce Banner assume they’re standing on a submarine, it’s an advanced flying command center capable of turning completely invisible. Captained by the baddest man in MCU, Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), the Helicarrier is essentially a floating war machine, ferrying Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from one confrontation with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to another.

The Avengers Helicarrier

The Helicarrier also made a heroic return at the climax ofAvengers: Age Of Ultron, giving The Avengers a much-needed boost to ensure they overcame Ultron and his army.

The Iron Spider Suit — ‘Avengers: Infinity War/Avengers: Endgame’

What do you get if you take the best parts of the Iron Man suit and combine it with the best parts of the Spider-Man suit? The answer is the aptly named Iron Spider suit, a sleek, metal suit emblazoned with the spider logo and a whole host of added extras.

Need a parachute to get down from an alien spaceship safely? The Iron Spider’s got your back. Need an ‘instant kill’ mode to get yourself out of a jam? The Iron Spider’s got your back. Need four extra arms to stop yourself from blowing out into space? The Iron Spider’s got your back. It’s one of the most effective suits seen in the MCU, especially considering it’s made with nanotech inSpider-Man: No Way Home, the sixth highest-grossing film of all time.

Thor: Ragnarok Quinjet

The Quinjet — ‘The Avengers/ Avengers: Age Of Ultron/ Avengers: Infinity War’

While heroes such as Iron Man, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Vision (Paul Bettany) have no trouble getting themselves from one country to the next, other heroes not blessed with the power of flight find the task much more difficult.

Thankfully for Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye, and Captain America, S.H.I.E.L.D invented the Quinjet, a heavily-armed, high-speed jet frequently piloted by members of The Avengers. Perhaps most impressively, the Quinjet is even capable of deep space travel, as The Hulk uses one to Sakaar, where he fights as a gladiator inThor: Ragnarok.

Smart Hulk — Avengers: Endgame

This counts as an invention, right? Combining the brains of Bruce Banner and the brawn of The Hulk wasn’t a quick or easy task, and the new, improved Hulk is a big part of our hero’s victory against Thanos (Josh Brolin) inAvengers: Endgame. Not only is he always ready for a fight, given that “puny Banner” no longer holds him back, but Banner’s brains enable him to play a critical role in the invention of time travel.

Also, it’s just a lot of fun to see Smart Hulk react to the chaotic, rageful Hulk when they travel back to the events of the first Avengers movie. It’ll be interesting to see if smart Hulk returns at any point, especially given he’sreturned to Bruce Banner in theShang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Ringspost-credit scene.

The Infinity Gauntlet — ‘Avengers: Infinity War/ Avengers: Endgame’

Before he began his quest to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos visited Nidavellir and forced the dwarves to make an item capable of wielding the power of the stones. When it was done, he killed all the dwarves apart from their king, Eitri (Peter Dinklage), though Thanos destroyed his hands, so he could never create anything else.

The Infinity Gauntlet is the ultimate weapon of destruction, allowing the person who wears it countless incredible abilities such as the ability to change reality, the ability to hurl a moon at your enemies, and, best of all, the ability to rewind time should one of your enemies manage to escape momentarily. All in all, it’s a good thing those stones have been left in the past.

Stormbreaker — ‘Avengers: Infinity War/Avengers: Endgame’

Thor almost loses hope when he arrives on Nidavellir to find that the star has gone out, Eitri is the only remaining dwarf, and Thanos took his hands. Thankfully, Thanos underestimated Eitri’s talents and Thor’s hunger for revenge. Together, they restart the star, and, with a sacrificial arm offered by Groot (Vin Diesel), Stormbreaker is born.

Rocket might think the name is “a bit much,” but the axe itself is incredible. Capable of summoning the Bifrost and transporting Thor to wherever he needs to go, it truly is a weapon worthy of killing Thanos, so long as Thor remembers to go for the head. Stormbreaker also gets bonus points for being so much easier to pronounce than Mjolnir.

The Quantum Suit — ‘Avengers: Endgame’

aNot only is the quantum suit the most impressive invention in the MCU so far, but it seems highly unlikely that anything will ever top it. After all, what could possibly be more impressive than time travel? After initially rejecting Steve, Natasha, and Scott’s (Paul Rudd) request for help, Tony literally invents time travel in his basement. Yes, he’s that good.

Utilizing the remaining Pym particles, the suits allow the Avengers to travel back in time to collect all six Infinity Stones from the past. Not only do they serve the purpose of allowing the Avengers a second shot against Thanos and the chance to bring back everyone they lost in the Blip, but the red and white design is insanely cool too. Good work, Tony. Good work.
