While viewers may now find the action thriller riveting, it wasn’t so at the time of its release, despite the star-studded cast. It holds a 42% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes; its Tomatometer rating is even less impressive, with 27% based on 124 reviews, 91 of which are rotten. “A rote,utterly disposable Jason Statham vehiclethat just happens to have Clive Owen and Robert De Niro in it,” the critics’ consensus reads.
What Is ‘Killer Elite’ About?
The $56.4 million film sees Statham’s Danny Bryce as one of the world’sdeadliest special-ops agentswho, in 1980, retires after assassinating a target in front of their young child. The following year, he returns from self-imposed exile after his mentor, Hunter (De Niro), is captured.Danny reassembles his former team of skilled commandos to launch a rescue mission, and also to infiltrate the highly feared military unit, the British Special Air Service. The mission is not so easy, as Danny and his teammust cut their way throughSpike (Owen) and a team of assassins known as the Feather Men.
