In early January,American Horror Storycreator and EPRyan Murphywas still prettytight-lippedabout what Season 8 of his anthology series would bring. But at a For-Your-Consideration Emmy event in Los Angeles this past Friday, he was much more forthcoming about what the next installment will include. AsDeadlinereports, the biggest reveals are thatEvan Peterswill be playing a comedic hair stylist,Joan Collinswill be playing his grandmother, and that the series will take place 18 months from now.
On the heels of such a politically motivated season, one that took its cues from reality, Murphy also said that Season 8 is “heightened [and] It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back toAsylum, andCoven. That’s the tone of it.”

Murphy then played a game with his fellow panelists andAHSalumni where they were allowed to ask any question about the new season except “am I in it?” So far we do know that in addition to Peters and Collins,Sarah Paulson(of course) andKathy Bateswill be returning. When asked ifAnjelica Hustoncould also be a part of the Season 8 cast, Murphy said, “(we’re) talking. I love her.”
Murphy did reveal that the new season would start shooting in June, but did not confirm the rumored title “Radioactive.” In answering his panelist’s questions, he also said that three of the leads in the new season are minority women, and that Peters would be playing a hairstylist (after a question Peters asked about wigs), noting that it would be a much less taxing role for Peters to play than what he did inCult.

Though Murphy just signed amassive deal with Netflix, it seems like he’s still very much committed to hisAmerican Horror Storyfranchise at FX. However, he also recently said that the fourth season ofAmerican Crime Storywouldnot longer focuson Monica Lewinsky, and they were looking for something else to base it on (which could leave its future in doubt). For now though,American Horror Storyfans can remain certain that the series will be sticking around for awhile – and in the meantime, you should check out the current andvery underratedseason ofAmerican Crime Story.
