Now that The CW’s DC Comics properties have established themselves as being welcome to crossover specials and guest stars traveling across space and time (thanks,Legends of Tomorrow!, there’s literally no end to the variety of ways in which fan-favorite characters might just pop up on sister series. Even CBS’Supergirlenjoyed a recent viewer bump thanks to a cute crossover featuringThe Flash’sBarry Allen (Grant Gustin). Now, it’sThe Flashthat will be getting a little extra help courtesy ofArrowstar,Katie Cassidy.

Arrowexecutive producerMarc Guggenheimrecently appeared at a special screening and follow-up Q&A for this week’s episode, an event which our ownChristina Radishwas able to attend. (We’ll have a full interview up after that episode “Eleven-Fifty-Nine” airs on Wednesday.) Guggenheim confirmed that Cassidy would be making appearances on bothThe Flashand the animated CW Seed series,Vixen. While you might be expecting the Black Canary to suit up and help save the day onThe Flash, what Cassidy’s role will be is actually quite a bit different. She’ll appear in Season 2’s penultimate episode, which will air May 17th. In that hour–which is currently untitled, at least officially–Cassidy will play the Earth-2 version of Laurel Lance, a.k.a. Black Siren, the only female member of theJustice Guild of America. The character in question is based on the Black Canary (Dinah Drake) who appeared in the Golden Age of comics; she was also the mother to Dinah Laurel Lance in those stories. Black Siren is an expert at hand-to-hand combat and dons a relatively simple yet classic costume. I, for one, can’t wait to see how Cassidy transitions into another take on the role she’s brought to life.

But that’s not all! Cassidy will also be lending her voice as Earth-1’s Laurel Lance/Black Canary on Season 2 ofVixen. That series seesMegalyn Echikunwokevoicing the title role, one she also brought to life on a recent episode ofArrow. There are no plot details available at present, but Vixen has teamed up with Black Canary and the team Birds of Prey on occasion in the comics, so perhaps they’ll be bringing those stories to life.
