The streaming giant’s timing couldn’t be any better, considering that the nostalgia trigger is at an all-time high and a new generation is discovering the dino franchise. This digital resurgence comes asRebirthsecures impressive box office metrics. TheScarlett Johanssonrevivalhas now earned 3.3 times its $225 million budget, including a $308 million domestic gross,and that signals a strong interest in the franchise’s roots. With41.7% of total revenue coming from the U.S., Universal is clearly riding a wave of legacy momentum, and Netflix is capitalizing on it by locking in the trilogy for streaming.

All three installments,Jurassic Park(1993),The Lost World: Jurassic Park(1997), andJurassic Park III, were available to stream on Peacock, prior to this shift. However, it seems that the movies were removed from the streamer a few days ago. The shift to Netflix, therefore, is a complete strategic move by the streaming giant to ride theRebirthwave on its own and convert those strong box office figures to legacy viewership. Not to mention that the suddenposts on Redditby fans about the sameare proof that there’s a growing fan-interest in the original filmsafter the release ofJurassic World Rebirth.

The originalJurassic Parktrilogyoffers a stark contrast in critical and audience reception compared toJurassic World Rebirth. Spielberg’s 1993Jurassic Parkremains the franchise’s gold standard with a91% critic and 91% audience scoreonRotten Tomatoes, still widely regarded as a near-perfect blockbuster.
