The first teaser forChristopher Nolan’sThe Odysseybegan playing in theaters ahead ofJurassic World Rebirth, and now the film just got an even more exciting look.Universal Pictures has officially unveiled the first poster forThe Odyssey, which is also beginning to appear in select theaters.The film is still in productionand is not slated for release until August 14, 2025 — more than a year from now, which makes this first look all the more shocking. The poster even features the first official tagline for the film,“Defy The Gods,”which will likely be followed by another tagline when the second poster is released.Matt Damonis set to star in the lead role of Odysseus, withTom Hollandrumored to be playing Telemachus opposite him.

This first-look poster comes mere days after anotherOdysseystar, Oscar-winnerCharlize Theron, officially confirmedshe will play Circe in the film, the Goddess of magic and sorcery. Theron also confirmed that, despite the film having been in production for several months now, she has not yet arrived on set and will be the last to film her scenes — she leaves in a few weeks to begin her journey on Nolan’s epic. Nolan has also recruited plenty of other stars forThe Odyssey, some new and some extremely familiar to him. After starring inTenet, Nolan will reunite withRobert PattinsoninThe Odyssey.InterstellarveteransAnne HathawayandBill Irwinwill also have roles in the film.Jon Bernthal,Zendaya,Cosmo Jarvis,Mia Goth,Elliot Page,Ryan Hurst,John Leguizamo,Lupita Nyong’o,Benny Safdie, and more will also star in the film.

Christopher Nolan’s Most Recent Film Has Come Under Fire

The Odysseywill be Nolan’s first film since teaming up withCillian MurphyforOppenheimer, the WWII movie that won seven Oscars. However, another directorial titan recently took a shot at the film, despite its widespread acclaim.AvatarvisionaryJames Cameron, who is developing a WWII movie titledGhost of Hiroshima, recently said thathe feltOppenheimer“dodged the subject”of the atom bombs, and even called the film a“moral cop out.”Cameron did praise the filmmaking on display in the 2023 Oscar-winner, but admits that his take on the atom bomb will be much different.
