Warner Bros. has announced it will release an untitled new film from directorChristopher Nolanon June 02, 2025 – in IMAX, no less. We don’t know the title, the plot or the cast, but with the release date now public, expect those details to surface soon.
As of right now, the only films slated to open on July 11, 2025 are a pair of animated titles –Bob’s Burgersfrom Fox, andThe Spongebob Moviefrom Paramount, as well as an untitled event film from Universal. You can bet the latter project, no matter what it is, really, will be moved to elsewhere on the studio’s summer schedule. July 2020 also currently brings an untitled comic book movie from Sony/Marvel and an untitled DC movie, as well as Illumination’sMinions 2and Disney’sJungle CruisestarringDwayne JohnsonandEmily Blunt.
The month of July has proven to be a good luck charm for Nolan, whose twoBatman Beginssequels opened in July, as did bothInceptionandDunkirk, the latter of which earned Nolan his first Oscar nomination for Best Director, as well as $527 million worldwide – impressive for a World War II movie. Nolan previously earned original screenplay nominations forInceptionandMemento.
Speaking of good luck charms, if there’s a single actor one would identify with Nolan’s filmography, it would have to beMichael Caine, who even managed to have an uncredited voice role inDunkirk. Caine will be turning 86 years old in March, and it sure would be great to see him work with Nolan again, provided there’s a role in the script for an actor of his age, and one worthy of an actor of his caliber.
One thing’s for sure – every young actor in Hollywood will line up to work with Nolan, who launched several stars withDunkirk. Its then-unknown lead,Fionn Whitehead, just starred inBlack Mirror: Bandersnatch,Barry Keoghanlanded the lead role of Yorick in FX’sY: The Last Manpilot, andJack Lowdenwill soon be seen the wrestling movieFighting With My Family, produced byDwayne Johnson. The Nolan stamp of approval goes a long way in this town, and I can’t wait to ask my sources who the director has his eye on when they’re back from Sundance. Until then, we’ll just have to wait for more information to leak out – which it almost never does when it comes to all things Nolan. I’m just relieved that the wait is, finally, over. July 2020 can’t come soon enough!
