It’s safe to say it’s been a great 24 hours forDunefans. Just yesterday,the title was officially confirmed asDune: Part Three— a controversial decision ditching theMessiahname on which the film is based — and now the movie just got another exciting update. The official Dune Movie X account posted the first photo from the set ofDune: Part Three, taken by directorDenis Villeneuve, confirming thatthe film has officially begun production. All signs point toDune: Part Threebeing released on June 02, 2025, but this is subject to a potential delay to 2027. Although the first set photo simply shows the beautiful dunes of Arrakis, it’s still undeniably exciting to know that work on the nextDunefilm has begun.

Dune: Part Threewill see the return of several franchise veterans, with a few newcomers also joining the fold. The most obvious stars expected to reprise their roles areTimothée ChalametandZendaya, who will play Paul Atreides and Chani for what may be the final time of their careers.Florence Pughwill also reprise her role as Princess Irulan in the film, andDune: Part OnestarJason Momoahas also confirmed his return as Duncan Idaho. It has even been reported thatRobert Pattinsonhas joined the cast as the villainous Scytale, but this has not been officially confirmed.Ida BrookeandNakoa-Wolf Momoawill play Ghanima and Leto II. The first twoDunemovies adapted the first novel inFrank Herbert’s series, andDune: Part Threewill adapt the entirety ofDune: Messiah. Villeneuve will direct and write the script withJon Spaihts.

Are the ‘Dune’ Movies Streaming?

BothDunemovies are currently streaming exclusively onHBO Max, which was recently retitled from just Max. They were also streaming onNetflixfor the first half of the year, but they recently departed the platform after several runs of streaming success. The first spin-off set in theDuneworld,Dune: Prophecy, also released on Max last year and was an instant hit. The show takes place 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides and follows the Bene Gesserit’s rise to power. It was such a success that it was renewed for Season 2, which willbegin filming later this year.
