Digimonfans are about to be gifted with a brand-new anime series.First announced back in March,Digimon Beatbreakis the new installment of thelong-running anime franchisethat will introduce new characters and Digimon partners to viewers. Details of the new era ofDigimonare still blurry — a trailer is bound to roll out soon — but we do know that thenew series will follow the traditional basic structure of a kid getting paired up with a digital monsterto protect the planet. This week, the two lead voice actors of the anime were announced.
Miyu Irinowill be the voice of Tomoro Tema, the new protagonist whose look is teased in the new series' first image. We don’t know much about Tomoro, but he is a little older than formerDigimonprotagonists — which could indicate that the new series isaiming for a target audiencewhose age is closer to ongoing shows such asOne PieceandMy Hero Academia. In any case, it’s too early to tell until we’ve seen the trailer.

You may not know Irino by name, but you might have heard his voice before. In the Japanese version of the modern classicSpirited Away, the voice actor brought Haku to life. Irino’s recent work includes credits inThe Garden of Words, Netflix’sThe Rose of Versailles,Mob Psycho 100,Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and the highly praisedMononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain. After he was formally announced, the voice actor shared a heartfelt message onTwitter/Xabout his arrivalin theDigimonfranchise. He wrote:
“It feels like a dream. I wish I could tell my past self about this. I will give it my all, pouring my heart and soul into it. Thank you for your support.”

When Does the New ‘Digimon’ Series Premiere?
Digimon Beatbreakis slated to debut this October, but a specific release date is yet to be announced. Chances are that the series will introduce a slate of new Digimon, and the main one is named Gekkomon. The yellow partner with a prominent tongue will be voiced byMegumi Han, a fan-favorite actor who voices the lead character Gon Freecs in the highly popular anime seriesHunter x Hunter. Han also does voice work inThe Apothecary DiariesandBeastars, and plays the young Kafka inKaiju No.8.
Westill don’t know which settingDigimon Beatbreakwill have.Across its several seasons, the anime has both adopted theisekai format— in which characters aretransported to a different world— and kept its characters in Tokyo, so the two possibilities exist. We are also yet to know if Tomoro will at some point fuse with Gekkomon, which has also happened in previous entries. When the trailer drops, we will have a much clearer picture ofwhat the tone of the serieswill be.
