Since the first episode ofFox’s seriesDoc, the audience has known that before the accident, Amy (Molly Parker) and Jake (Jon Ecker) were an item. After the accident left Amy with amnesia, Jake has been hesitant to tell her about their past as a couple but is clearly still in love with her. Unfortunately for him, Amy’s memories skip over their relationship completely, back to a time when she was happily married to her husband Michael (Omar Metwally) and had two children.

Since then, her son has passed away, and Amy has built emotional walls around her family, including her daughter Katie (Charlotte Fountain-Jardim), and she’s now divorced from Michael. As Amy continues to piece together her memories, more about her past comes to light, and she strivesto make amends for the way she treated people for the last eight years. In Episode 6, “One More, With Feeling,” there are major strides in Amy’s recovery, including a moment towards the very end of the episodethat will change everything between Amy and Jake moving forward.

Amy Realizes That She and Jake Have a History in Episode 6 of ‘Doc’

At the beginning of the episode, Katie decides to move in with Amy, marking a pivotal moment in their healing relationship, even though Michael isn’t convinced it’s a good idea. Amy is still reeling from the news that Michael’s wife is expecting a baby boy, which upsets her further when she finds out that her best friend, Gina (Amirah Vann), kept this information from her. Amy accuses Gina of failing to protect her, which is a harsh moment and shows a brief glimpse of the “old Amy.” It is understandable, though, that she’s so frustrated by her struggle to remember anything from the last eight yearsand living a reality that she doesn’t recognize.

Meanwhile, Jake and Amywork together on the medical case at the heart of the story— helping a young patient who cannot feel pain. As parents themselves, they understand her father’s concern that her condition could lead her into dangerous situations, especially while she’s away at college. Working together, they determine that she needs her appendix removed and are able to save her in time. Their heartfelt conversations also offer much-needed support to her father, who ultimately agrees to let his daughter stay in college and live the life she deserves. It’s a touching casethat resonates with the doctors, somethingDocexcels at.

After their shift, Jake and Amy share a moment in the hospital locker room. Katie calls her mom to ask if she can go see a movie with her friends, even though it’s their first night living under the same roof. Amy agrees, meaning she’s free for the night. She instinctively flirts with Jake, asking about his plans, and Jake reveals he’s going through a breakup(which, unlike Amy, the audience knows refers to his unresolved feelings for Amy).He invites her for a drink, but before she can respond, Amy notices something familiar: the same kind of energy powder that was in her kitchen is in Jake’s locker. This triggers a series of realizations – Jake knows her favorite coffee, remembers her laptop password, and is one of the few people who doesn’t seem to hate her. In a rush of emotions, Amy confronts Gina, who confirms that Amy and Jake have been in a relationship for months.

‘Doc’ Episode 6 Finally Reveals the Truth About Jake and Amy’s Relationship

At first, Amy is upset that this is another thing Gina hid from her. However, in this case, it’s not her fault. Gina reveals that Jake only told her about their relationship two days ago, which confirms that Amy had been keeping the relationship a secret, even from her best friend. This confrontation leads toa heartfelt reconciliation between Amy and Gina, who agrees that she failed Amy because she’s trying to be her doctor and friend at the same time. Amy, overwhelmed with questions, learns that Jake had been serious about their relationship before the accident. She may not be able to remember how she felt about it, but as Gina puts it, all that matters is how she feels about him now. Amy gathers the courage to confront Jake at his apartment, ready to face the truth about their romantic history together.

At his front door, Amy confronts Jake, questioning why he never told her about their past relationship. Ecker’s performance, while subtle, truly captures Jake’s relief that the truth is finally out, even if Amy doesn’t remember all the details. He’s been weighing if he should say something, even asking Gina’s advice, but ultimately decided to keep it to himself. What follows is a heartwarming exchangeas the two embrace and share a kiss for the first time in this new dynamicwhile also picking up right where they left off. It will be fascinating to watch them navigate their relationship moving forward, especially as each episode unravels more of Amy’s past throughDoc’s well-crafted flashbacks. There’s stillso much to uncover about their relationship before the accident, and Jake now faces the challenge of dating a version of Amy who doesn’t remember their shared history – for better or worse.

While the “old Amy"thought keeping their relationship a secret was a good idea, the new Amy might not feel the same way, which will be an interesting change to see. If their relationship becomes public,it would certainly impact their workplace, especially with Amy already on shaky ground. Ricard (Scott Wolf) is actively looking for any opportunity to get her into trouble, with ulterior motives that the show is still unfolding. There’s also Michael to consider, whose current marriage is far from stable. There have been moments so far this season whereMichael catches glimpses of the “old Amy,” who he clearly once lovedbefore the death of their son. How he will react when he learns about Amy and Jake’s relationship and, more importantly, how he feels about her moving on with someone else will build tension for the series. While the future remains uncertain, it’s really nice to see Amy and Jake happy together again – at least for now.
