Production onFast & Furious 8has undergone a striking location shift. When last we checked in with the highly anticipated sequel, filming was underway in Cubaon what proved to be a historic shoot—the first Hollywood film to shoot in Cuba since before the embargo. But now, directorF. Gary Gray(Straight Outta Compton) has moved to a rather chilly locale for the next setup, as a new officialFast & Furious 8set video shows off the production’s Iceland set piece.

Yes indeed, for the first time ever theFast & Furiousfranchise is going snowbound, and it certainly looks to be providing some serious production value. In fact, there’s a bit of aMad Maxvibe in this here production video as we see a bevy of military vehicles chasing down theFast & Furiouscrew’s ill-equipped cars, all set against the stark and icy backdrop of the snow-covered country. There’salsoa slightDie Another Dayvibe here, but one imagines that’s one comparison theFast & Furiouscrew wants to avoid at all costs.

This sequel certainly looks to be the largest-in-scopeFast & Furiousmovie yet, and it brings to mind those reports from a few years back when Universal was consideringswitching up the genre of the franchisefrom car-centric actioner to heist film. That was on the heels of the excellentFast Five, but from the looks of things inFast 8, the car action is still very much a vital piece of this long-running series.

Gray landed the highly coveted directing gig fresh off helming his most critically acclaimed film yet,Straight Outta Compton, and I’m curious to see what he brings to the series having delved into the car-action genre before withThe Italian Job.
