Although theFive Nights at Freddy’s 2trailer wasreleased earlier todayto showcase all the new horrors awaiting in the titular pizzeria, Blumhouse saved one sinister surprise for attendees at theSan Diego Comic-ConHall H panel tonight. In addition toSkeet Ulrichreuniting with his fellow GhostfaceMatthew Lilliardin the sequel, there’s another new animatronic set to make its debut in theaters this December. A new sneak peek was shared that highlighted the creepy Marionette, a haunting being that gamers will remember hiding in a music box that needed to be kept wound inScott Cawthon’s second installment in the horror video game franchise, lest bad things happen. Collider’sSamantha Coleywas in attendance to get a look at the frightful puppet and its purpose in the footage.
The new look opens withMckenna Grace’s paranormal investigator and her video crew being guided on a tour through the restaurant by a creepy security guard. As they walk and talk about what they find, including a boat ride, they stumble across the Marionette, which was said to directthe animatronics like Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxyin their performances. However, another one was never made, making it a rare, creepy, one-of-a-kind creation. Sure enough, they also find the rest of the band minus Foxy, who was part of a take-apart, put-back-together experiment. Their exploration takes a turn for the terrifying when they start hearing eerie children’s music over the mic, with the guard promising that “This place will play with your imagination if you let it.” It foreshadows terrible things to come as the group ventures deeper into the location anduncovers more of its secrets.

Though the sneak peek is more confined,Five Nights at Freddy’s 2will send the animatronicsfar beyond the bounds of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The trailers have shown that the robots are everywhere now, and not just the original models seen in the first film. The rounder, cleaner, and more advanced toy animatronics are also roaming around town, haunting Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) as they’re still recovering from the trauma oftheir first encounter with Freddy and the gang. Mike’s daughter Abby (Piper Rubio) still misses her friends from beyond, though, and she’s determined to help them put the pieces back together, even if it means plunging back into danger to do so.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Listened to Fan Feedback About the First Movie
Emma Tammiis back at the helm forFNAF 2with Cawthon again writing the screenplay. Although the team is the same, the process was a bit different this time around, with fan feedback to work with. The original film may havescared up a haul of $297.1 million, but it suffered from lackluster reviews overall. Lillard, who will make good on his promise to “always come back"as the serial killer William Afton, believes bothTammi and Cawthon took viewers' requestsfor “more action, more jump scares, more of what they loved viscerally about the game” to heart for the sequel and that there will be much more to like about what’s to come. It also has a reinforced cast, withWayne KnightandTeo Brionesalso joining Grace and Ulrich among the newcomers to the animatronic mayhem.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2hits theaters on December 5. Stay tuned here at Collider for more from SDCC throughout the weekend.
