This summer is going to be a fun time to be ahorrorfan as the likes ofM3GAN 2.0andI Know What You Did Last Summerwill be lighting up the box office. However, June also holds the year’s only “Friday the 13th”. On top of that, 2025 marks the 45th anniversary of theFriday the 13thfranchise. While there’s no new film to celebrate and A24’sCrystal Lakeseries for Peacock is a ways off, that doesn’t mean we can’t party hard for Jason Voorhees.Paramount ScaresandBloody Disgustingare throwing the ultimate Friday the 13th eventthis month that fans aren’t going to want to miss.
TheFriday the 13thanniversary event will be held at Street Food Cinema (SFC) in Los Angeles, California. Of course, on Friday, June 13th. This is a part of LA’s largest outdoor cinema series.While there will be a screening of theoriginal 1980 classicthat started it all, there will also be themed photo ops, swag giveaways, a spooky marketplace, interactive horror trivia and more. In addition to that, there will be food trucks with a full bar to satisfy anyhorror fan’s desires, as well as live music fromDJ Splyce. However, arguably the best part is that the chilling event will behosted by James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca of the popular Dead Meat horror-branded YouTubechannel. This will be a one-night-only event with the doors opening at 8 PM and the scream-worthy festivities starting at 10 PM. General admission tickets will be $25 USD and VIP tickets are $40. The latter includes early admission with stadium chair seating in the reserved section.
Jason Will Soon Return to Crystal Lake
From 1980 to 2009,Jason Voorhees terrorized the slasher sub-genre with12 feature films. This included extreme highs likePart VI: Jason Lives, watery lows likeJason Xand underrated gems likePart IIIandPart VII: The New Blood. However, because of therights lawsuitbetweenFriday the 13th’s original writerVictor Millerand directorSean S. Cunningham, there hasn’t been a new entry in the franchise in over 15 years. The series has been ironically stuck on its 13th entry.
All joking aside, it does appear that this dispute has been settled withCrystal Lakesoon to be making fans scream at home. The series was in its own form of development hell for some time. A change of showrunners caused a reset, but it’s back on track and inpre-production.This Peacock prequel show will follow ayoung Mrs. Voorhees, who will be played by genre veteranLinda Cardellini(Scooby-Doo). Also, separate from the series, the franchise will live on withJason Universe. This will be a new shared-universe experience that will be covered across films, merchandise and video games.
