One formerGame of Thronesstar and Award-winning singer/songwriter has just shared a controversial Star Wars opinion. There have been 11 Star Wars movies released sinceA New Hopehit theaters over 50 years ago, including the recent releases ofRogue OneandSolo, which aren’t given the traditional episodic title, but still fit into the story. Few franchises are as opinionated as Star Wars — everyone has a favorite movie, and while some are lifted on a pedestal much higher than others, even the most maligned entries have fans out there somewhere.

Star Warsalso has some famous fans out there who aren’t afraid to share their opinion. One of those isEd Sheeran, the popular singer/songwriter who even appeared in the hit HBO series,Game of Thrones. Sheeran recently caught up withKylie Kelciefor an episode of Not Gonna Lie, where he was asked about his favorite Star Wars movie. The most common answers here areEmpire Strikes Back,Revenge of the Sith, or maybe evenRogue One, but Sheeran took a different path:

“I thinkStar Wars: The Phantom Menace is my favorite… I know that’s unpopular, but I was eight when it came out, and I really liked it..I liked Jar Jar Binks.”

The Phantom Menaceis widely viewed as not only the weakest movie in the prequel trilogy, but arguably the worst Star Wars film ever released. Other movies, likeThe Rise of Skywalker, have also been hammered by the fan base for some goofy moments — we’re looking at you, “Somehow, Palpatine returned.”The Phantom Menacewas released in theaters last year to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and it was followed byRevenge of the Sithearlier this year, which celebrated its 20th anniversary. Needless to say,Revenge of the SithoutperformedThe Phantom Menaceby a long shot.
