It’s been seven months since we’ve last heard of the new comedy fromGhostscreatorsJoe PortandJoe Wiseman. After such a long time, it might even seem likeEternally Yourswas not going to happen anymore. However, a new report byDeadlineconfirms that the duo of writers have just recently cracked their knuckles to develop theupcoming supernatural comedy series. A release window is yet to be announced, butCBSis eyeing the pilot season this fall for the series.
At this point, all we know aboutEternally Yoursis that the series centers around afamily of vampires, and the title suggests that the comedy aspect of it might hail from the fact that thefamily has been togetherfor a long, long time. Also according toDeadline, the duo only now started working on the new show because they were handling their flagship series at the network first:Ghostsis just about to deliver its final batch of episodes forSeason 4.
Since Port and Wiseman are expected to return to take the reins ofGhostsimmediately after developingEternally Yours, it’s not clear at what capacity they are involved inthe new series. It’s possible that they captain the writing room that kicks the sitcom into life but then hand over showrunning duties to other writers and serve as producers, as many other high-profile showrunners likeShonda Rhimes(Grey’s Anatomy),Ryan Murphy(American Horror Story) andTaylor Sheridan(Yellowstone) have done before them.
‘Ghosts’ Has Been Doing Hauntingly Well
It’s understandable that CBS would want Port and Wiseman back at the helm ofGhosts. Under their supervision, the comedy series managed to become one of the network’s biggest hits ever since its premiere, averaging 11 million viewers across platforms. Not by chance, the award-winning series has justrecently scored a two-season renewal, meaning that viewers will continue tolaugh out loudat the adventuresinside Woodstone Mansionat least until 2027.
Ghostsis based on aBritish sitcom of the same namethat hails from the same creators ofHorrible Histories. The original show ran for five seasons and ended in 2023 with a total episode count of 35. The U.S. version greatly expanded upon the original idea, and just likeThe Officedid, the comedy series has been able to take the concept and run with it. Chances are that, ifGhostsremains as popular as it is, it could run foras many seasons asThe Officedid— only three left to go!
