The 2016 Golden Globe Awards were held tonight, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was very fond ofThe Revenant. The film took home Best Picture - Drama, Best Director forAlejandro G. Iñárritu, and Best Actor forLeonardo DiCaprio, putting a halt toSpotlight’s awards momentum a tad, which was entirely shut out. The awards themselves aren’t exactly a meaningful pit stop on the road to the Oscars—the Academy has already closed voting for Oscar nominations—it does give folks a chance to see how potential winners may handle their speeches. The Revenantisn’t ahugethreat to winning Best Picture (Spotlightis still tops in that department, withThe Big Shorta potential Dark Horse), but DiCaprio surely seems well on his way to winning his first Oscar.

Elsewhere, the hilarious rompThe Martianwon Best Picture - Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy forMatt Damon, while the Best Actress honors went toBrie Larson(another Oscar favorite) forRoomandJennifer LawrenceforJoy. AndSteve Jobs, which began this season as a potential heavyweight but all but disappeared after its disastrous box office, picked up two trophies in the Best Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Supporting Actress (Kate Winslet) categories.

On the TV side of things, the HFPA continued their trend of being distracted by new and shiny shows over well-established series, awarding the addictive USA seriesMr. RobotBest Drama Series, Best Actor (Rami Malek), and Best Supporting Actor (Christian Slater), while the Amazon seriesMozart in the Junglesurprisingly took home Best Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy (Gael Garcia Bernal). The vets weren’t entirely left out, though, asJon Hammpicked up one lastMad Mentrophy andEmpire’sTaraji P. Hensonenthusiastically took home Best Actress in a Drama.
