What the Black Lights Discovered on ‘Below Deck’

Charter guests are famously demanding, which is why the preference sheet meeting is aBelow Deckstaple. It offers a glimpse into their quirks—like the season’s first group, who brought black lights to inspect their home for the next few days. Upon their arrival, we hear the charter guests chatter about how they not only have black lights in their bag, they brought along their own Clorox. SurelyChief Stew Fraser Olenderhas some on board if you were that scared, right?

As much as Fraser has assured the guests that everything has been washed and is brand new for them, there is still trepidation about the cleanliness of St. David. Which is truly wild for long-time viewers. We literally watch our favoriteBelow Deckstars work grueling hours to make these boats spotlessly clean. Listen, the crew has been known to hook up in the hot tub from time to time, butthe primaries are also known to dirty things up when they’re feeling frisky!

Jade, the daughter of the primary, is adamant that they get the black lights out so they can do their examination. The only problem is, since the guests had to be ferried onto the boat, the luggage just so happened to be left on the dock. Strike one for the new crew. When the luggage was finally shuttled over to St. David, it was time to explore with the black lights.Mr. Rashid was holding nothing back as he examinedeverything. From the bathroom sinks to the remote lounging on the coffee table, Mr. Rashid needed reassurance that it was in perfect condition. But when he reached for the switches on the bedside table, he told Fraser, they were “disgustingly dirty.” Our new resident curly-haired redhead,Barbara Kulaif, was ready to go and clean it up for the primary, though she told us that she wouldn’t know if the black light was really showing dust or germs if she were to use it.

‘Below Deck’ Is Meant To Give Exceptional Service

Though the first episode has only shown the first part of the Rashid family getaway, it’s already pushing the crew to new levels. It’s important to pay extra attention to the primary’s desires. If he wants the boat to be spotless, go the extra mile to clean those nooks and crannies. If he wants his steak extra well done, well,Chef Lawrence Snowden, swallow your pride for a moment, push aside that culinary brilliance, andthink of that tip at the end of the charter. Though, we might worry if the galley might KO him first.

Speaking to Collider, Captain Kerry discussed the big mistake on day one. As he disclosed in the episode, the Sint Maarten marina has some challenges. Between the bridge and the swells, the first charter was already going to be different, so he was displeased when he learned that the guests’ luggage didn’t make it on board. Noting that they were already on the other side of the island before the news was relayed to him,“We were gone. We were in another country before we realized,” he told Collider. As far as the demands from the guests, Captain Kerry chalked it up to,“That’s yachting.“Though not mentioning the black light of it all, he continued, “Our job is to provide what no one else can provide.” So, does that mean this family may have launched a trend for future charter guests? Let’s hope not!
