Henry Cavill’s next movie is due to begin filming soon, but before he arrives on set, one of his more forgotten films just passed aQuentin Tarantinoclassic on streaming charts. Cavill stars alongsideBen Kingsley(Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) andStanley Tucci(Conclave) inNight Hunter, formerly titledNomis. The 2018 serial killer thriller follows a police Lieutenant, his force, and a vigilante who get wrapped up in a dangerous scheme.Night Hunteris currently streaming for free on Tubi in America, but globally, the film is streaming on Paramount+, where it recently passedPulp Fictionto reach the #3 spot.
Cavill’sNight Hunter, which also starsAlexandra Daddario(The White Lotus) andNathan Fillion(The Rookie), was not well-liked by critics or audiences. The film earned tragic scores of 14% from critics and 51% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It also did not receive a wide theatrical release in the United States or overseas, as the film reported only around $1 million in total box office earnings. It’s unclear what the production budget was forNight Hunter, but it certainly didn’t do much work at the box office to recuperate any of it.
David Raymondwrote the script forNight Hunter, and he also took it upon himself to direct the film. To this day, it’s the only film he’s ever directed. For Cavill,Night Hunterwas released during the same year that he teamed up withTom CruiseforMission: Impossible - Fallout, which is the highest-rated film in the franchise. It was also four years before he played Superman for the final time in theBlack Adampost-credit scene, but only two years before he suited up oppositeMillie Bobby BrowninEnola Holmes.
