It’s just about that time again! Netflix has announced its lists of what will be coming and leaving the streaming service throughout June 2016, and the news comes with a disappointing reminder. Amongst the titles being added to the streaming service’s library, very few of them, outside of the original series, is worth sitting down to watch seriously, reinforcing the sense that since Netflix got into the original programming racket, they’ve given less and less of a care to the caliber of movies they are adding.

There’s one major title that is hitting the service, and its a controversial one.Clint Eastwood’sJ. Edgargot little respect from either side of the political spectrum, but it’s one of the best films to date from one of the most underrated American filmmakers currently working. Eastwood criticizes the diseases of uncertainty, repression, and control that made J. Edgar Hoover, played by a never-betterLeonardo DiCaprio, obsess over the repression and control of others, including Martin Luther King Jr. That being said, he doesn’t lose the sadness of the character, never denies the notorious FBI head his basic humanity, and its just this decision, to neither make him heroic or purely monstrous, that made people turn a blind eye to J. Edgar. Don’t repeat that mistake.

Beyond that, there’sJurassic Park, which you’ve probably already seen but should watch again, as well as small delights likeCold in July,Janis: Little Girl Blue, andTodd McCarthy’sSpotlight. And then, of course, there’s the new season ofOrange is the New Blackand the debut season ofVoltron: Legendary Defenderfrom Netflix’s original programming, which, yes, is nearly damn worth the lack of solid movies on the service.
