AlthoughJason Statham’s new movie didn’t perform as well asThe Beekeeperat the box office, one of his older flicks has made a stunning re-appearance on streaming charts. Statham stars alongside action iconJet LiinWar, the 2007 film following an FBI Agent (Statham) who seeks vengeance against a mysterious assassin (Li) who murdered his partner.Warrecently began streaming for free on Tubi, and the film has snuck into the top 10,sitting at #8 on the streamer’s charts at the time of writing. The film was not particularly well-received by critics or audiences, earning a“rotten”14% score from the former onRotten Tomatoesand a 51% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. It also grossed only $42 million at the box office against a $25 million budget.

Lee Anthony SmithandGregory J. Bradleywrote the script forWar, andPhilip G. Atwelldirected the film.Waris the first and only feature film Smith and Bradley wrote in their short careers as scribes, and the same can be said for Atwell. After making a name for himself working on countless music documentaries and music videos, Atwell made his feature directorial debut onWar, and he has not directed anything else in the 18 years since. He did, however, serve as the second unit director onNicolas Cage’sNational Treasuremovies.Warcame at an interesting time during Statham’s career — he was neck deep intheTransporterfranchisewith two films under his belt and the third coming the following year. It was also only three years before he launchedhisExpendablesfranchisewithSylvester Stallone.
