you’re able to keep yourBad BunnysandTravis Kelcesof the world; Golf legendJohn Dalyis the true starofHappy Gilmore 2’s packed cameo and celeb roster. The highly anticipated sequel to the ’90s classic comedy,Happy Gilmore, starringAdam Sandler,Christopher McDonald,Carl Weathers, andJulie Bowen, still has all the wacky, wild energy of the original blockbuster smash. Sandler is back to smacking golf balls in sweats and hockey jerseys, and is as angry as ever. A beloved character known for his angry tantrums, unusual style, and hard drinking in a rigid, strict sport,Happy Gilmore has a lot in common with the golf legend, Daly. A rule-breaker since he arrived on tour as a rookie, then launching into international stardom, he drank heavily, wore what he wanted, andeven wrestled on the green.
Happy Gilmore 2is a hit on Netflix, but one thing that’s stirred mixed feelings among critics is its packed use of real-life figures, from sports, to a lot of Sandler’s longtime comedy collaborators. But one thing is for sure,John Daly is an absolute natural playing a fictionalized version of himself. Though he does not swing a golf club throughout the film’s runtime, the golfer’s acting is a hole in one, with one-liners and inspiring quotes that help Happy get back on the golf course and save his family. Holding his own againstSteve Buscemi,Ben Stiller, and more,Daly’s swagger, fashion, attitude, and above all, not taking himself too seriously, make for the best celebrity appearance inHappy Gilmore 2.

What is ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ About?
30 years after Happy Gilmore won the tour championship and got his grandma’s house back, he’s become a depressed, washed-up has-been with a drinking problem. After killing his wife, Virginia, in a golfing accident, Happy now has to raise all five of his children on his own, and attempt to get the money to send his daughter, Vienna (Sunny Sandler), to dancing school. It’s none other than John Daly, who lives as a tenant in Happy’s garage, who tells Happy the only way back to himself, and to get enough money to keep everything from falling apart, is golf. This sends Happy on a wild journey as he returns to the sport that once made him a star, and he stumbles along the way with his drinking and tantrums within the changing sport. When business mogul Frank Manatee (Ben Safdie) comes up with a new kind of AI golf, Maxi Golf, that could ruin the sport forever, Happy competes to take him downalongside his former rival, Shooter McGavin, and several real-life golf pros.
John Daly is a Golf Legend, Known For His Rebellious Nature, Drinking, and Style
John Daly erupted onto the golf scene in the early ’90s as a young rookie andunexpectedly won the 1991 PGA Championshipout of nowhere, and went from an unknown to a celebrity practically overnight. Daly made headlines and turned heads right awaywith his eccentric style of bright plaid pants, temper, and heavy drinking.Daly landed in rehab a few times throughout his career, which greatly affected his career. He was also no stranger to getting fined, and for his tantrums on the green, which sometimes led to physical altercations. All of this contributes to his legend and greatness, including his unwillingness to give up his unique style to conform to the, at times, uptight sport.InHappy Gilmore 2,it makes perfect sense that he and Happy would be friends,as Happy is known for his rule-breaking, from wearing Timberland boots on the golf course to chucking golf clubs into the pond. Daly becomes Happy’s mentor of sorts, and fills in forthe iconic role Carl Weathers createdin the first movie with Chubbs Peterson.
‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Was Hilarious, but Why Did They Have to Do [SPOILER] Dirty Like That?
After nearly 30 years, an important character didn’t deserve to go out like that.
Daly’s entrance inHappy Gilmore 2is nothing short of iconic. Wearing his trademark pink and yellow plaid golfer pants, long trailing beard, and cigar in hand, Daly is already Happy’s number one supporter. He’s an absolute natural, as he watchesLove Islandand delivers his lines in a slow, lazy southern drawl with perfect comedic timing. He’s unapologetically himself, a main theme that bothHappy GilmoreandHappy Gilmore 2carry.In one of the movie’s best sequences, he appears as a god-like figure in front of Happy sitting on a La-Z-Boy,and tells Happy to “Grip it and rip it,” and return to playing golf. That is Daly’s most iconic phrase, which helped establish him as a cult hero in the sport, as any golf fan would know.. Daly’s cameo is more than a shtick; it’s a sincere performance, delivered by one of golf’s most beloved characters.

John Daly Is One of Several Golfers in ‘Happy Gilmore 2,’ and Shares Hilarious Moments with Steve Buscemi
Daly is a revelation as a comedic actor with great timing, and sometimes he doesn’t need dialogue, like when he squirts hand sanitizer in his mouth, and falls asleep on the curb of the Gilmores' home. Every time he’s on-screen, he’s wearing a new, flamboyant outfit, whether it be short shorts or pants with flowers on them, holding a drink or a cigar. His complete dedication to the bit and making fun of himself makes him rise above the other cameos. He also shares a great scene with a cameo from Steve Buscemi, who often popped up inSandler’s classic moviesover the years. With a running gag of peeing in mailboxes and doing pirouettes in the film, he and Daly share some hilarious gags in the garage towards the film’s end, where they have a hissy fit while watching Happy play.
Along with Daly, the film features current male no.1 golferScottie Schefflerin an equally hilarious cameo alongside golfing legendRory McIlroy,as well asBrooks KoepkaandBryson DeChambeau, who become Happy’s teammates against the Maxi League. Yes, the film has received some flak for all the cameos that some deemed unnecessary, and it’s a shame Shooter McGavin’s character didn’t get more screen time,or Happy’s wife, Virginia, died so early on. Still, that doesn’t take away from the fact thatDaly is a great addition to the film, whose legend of downing beers and causing brawls has Happy Gilmore written all over it.
