Get ready to head to Boston Harbor’s most terrifying island.Shutter Island,Paramount Pictures' 2010 psychological thriller film starringLeonardo DiCaprio,is finally making its way onto its studio’s namesake streaming platform.The film is available on Paramount+ as of August 1.This will give fans a chance to sample yet another one of the iconic team-ups between DiCaprio and directorMartin Scorsese.
The film, based on the book of the same name byDennis Lehane,tells the story of Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), a pair of U.S. Marshals who are sent to an insane asylum to investigate the disappearance of a patient. Once they arrive, things go awry when Daniels beginsexperiencing paranormal phenomena, including flashbacks of his time as a soldier and images of his dead wife (Michelle Williams). Eventually, it becomes clear this isn’t by accident, and that nobody at the asylum — including the two marshals — is who they appear to be.

Beyond DiCaprio and Ruffalo,Shutter Islandhas an all-star cast ofBen Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Emily Mortimer,and more. The film, while not one of Scorsese’s most memorable outings, has been mostly well-received;Shutter Islandcurrently holds a 69% critics' score onRotten Tomatoesalongside a 77% audience score. So, overall, the majority of those who watch the film enjoy it.
Scorsese and DiCaprio Have a Long History
