Now available to watch from the comfort of your own home on PVOD platforms such as Amazon Prime and Apple TV,Lilo & Stitch’s long run at the box office is finally slowing down, although not without still hitting afew more milestones.
One such milestone, hit thanks to another recent weekend haul of $1.5 million domestically, is officially doubling the total US gross of another big-name franchise, namelyGuy Ritchie’sSherlock Holmes. Released in 2009, the movie, which starredRobert Downey Jr.andJude Lawas the titular Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively, earned a totaldomestic haul of $209 million. Made for a reported $90 million, the movie was a certain success for Ritchie and co, earning a global total just shy of $500 million and becoming Ritchie’s one and only successful big-screen franchise-starter to date.

With a huge 92% audience score on the aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, theLilo & Stitchremake has been an unquestionable success on all fronts and has unsurprisingly led to asequel already put in the works. However, not every response to the movie was ultimately positive.In his reviewfor Collider,Aidan Kelleyawarded the latest in a long line of Disney remakes just 4/10, saying it “feels like it was made by a boardroom of folks who wanted to sell more Stitch merchandise.”
What Else is Currently On in Theaters?
WithLilo & Stitchcoming to an end in its theatrical run, space is opening up for more exciting box office additions. Perhaps the most exciting of all upcoming titles is the release ofFantastic Four: First Steps, with thePedro Pascal-led film making its box office debut this weekend.
