Margot Robbieis not just proving herself to be a talented actress with star power to boot, but also a self-started. As she continues her meteoric ascension, she’s branching into filmmaking as a producer for a couple of her upcoming projects, and now she adds another to that growing list.
According toTHR, Robbie will produce and star inBad Monkeys, a thriller based on the novel of the same name by authorMatt Ruff. The story, which hit shelves in 2008, tells of a woman named Jane Charlotte, who makes it difficult for the readers to figure out if she’s sane, psychotic, or just a liar.
After she’s arrested for murder, Jane tells authorities she’s part of a secret organization called the Department for the Final Disposition of Irredeemable Persons — also called Bad Monkeys. Though she denies the charges, her statement sends her to a psychiatric wing, where professionals examine her and try to make sense of her story.
Robbie first worked as an associate producer on 2009’sI.C.U.and will star in as well as produce Warner Bros. Harley Quinn spin-off movie, should the studio keep that ball rolling. She’ll also produce directorVaughn Stein’sTerminal, in which she stars alongsideSimon Pegg,Mike Myers, andHarry Potter’sMatthew Lewis.
Since her breakthrough performance inThe Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie (only 26) has remained planted in the Hollywood conversation. She already featured inWhiskey Tango FoxtrotandThe Legend of Tarzanthis year alone, in addition to next month’s debut ofSuicide Squad— and there seems to be no end to her rise in sight.
Robbie is currently getting ready tohit up San Diego Comic-Conwith the cast ofSuicide Squad, includingWill Smith,Jared Leto,Viola Davis,Jai Courtney,Joel Kinnaman, and more to preview the next DC film, hitting theaters on August 5th.
