The holidays are a time for forgiveness, and this year, it appears that audiences are forgivingMark Wahlberg,Mel Gibson,Will Ferrell, andJohn Lithgowfor inflictingDaddy’s Home 2on us after 7 years, because despite a dismal 21% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, the holiday comedy has soared to fifth place in Netflix’s Global Top 10 (English films) for the week of November 25 to December 1, with 5.3 million views and 9 million hours watched. The sequel to the 2015 comedy, which earned $180 million at the box office, ranks in Netflix’s Top 10 in 45 countries. There’s clearly no accounting for taste, but ‘tis the season.
The film continues the story of co-parenting fathers Brad (Ferrell) and Dusty (Wahlberg)as they contend with their own fathers, played by Gibson and Lithgow, during the holiday season, supported by other cast members includingLinda Cardellini, Bill BurrandJohn Cena. Father and stepfather Dusty and Brad join forces to make Christmastime perfect for the children. Their newfound partnership soon gets put to the test when Dusty’s old-school, macho dad and Brad’s gentle father arrive to turn the holiday upside down.
