With only a week to go untilAvengers: Endgamehits theaters, Marvel Studios has released another TV spot for the upcoming film, which will see the remaining superheroes band together in their fight against Thanos. As this TV spot illustrates, the plan here is to get the Infinity Stones and use them to undo the devastation wrought by the Mad Titan. While I usually prefer for characters to live with their choices, it’s not like the Avengerschoseto have the universe cut in half. It’s not their fault that Thanos is kind of a dummy who, instead of just deciding to double all resources, chose to halve all populations. So now it’s on the Avengers to fix things.

What I’ve enjoyed about this marketing, aside from them giving away very little of what’s going to happen, is that they haven’t forgotten that part of the draw for these movies is that they’re fun. Even with a dark cloud hanging over the film due to the events ofInfinity War, there’s still room for characters to crack jokes, which is important. Three hours is a long time for a movie; no one wants it to be aggressively dour. It will be a bit of a tightrope to walk between investing in the seriousness of the situation and having one-liners, but the Russos have shown they know how to manage that balance.

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
