July also sees the return of Oscar-winnerJudas and the Black Messiahafter it made its initial premiere on HBO Max and in theaters earlier this year, and it will be streaming for the next few months.
In terms of new TV shows, the highly anticipatedGossip Girlreboot debuts in July, as does the new series fromEnlightenedcreatorMike White,The White Lotus. There’s also the docuseriesCatch and Killwhich adaptsRonan Farrow’s book of the same name about the investigation into Harvey Weinstein.
As for library titles, I cannot recommend the cult horror filmThe Empty Manenough. It was released in late 2020 and essentially buried, but thisDavid Fincher-esque thriller quickly built up a cult following. Other new additions include the horror comedyFreaky, the originalPlanet of the Apesfilms,Pleasantville, the first threeScreammovies, the underseen thrillerThe Huntco-written byDamon Lindelof, and an unrated and uncut version ofWhite Chicksif that’s your jam. See? HBO Max really does have a little of everything.
