The iPad Pro is now Apple’s best-selling iPad by a large margin. I should start by saying I don’t feel great about this. I didn’t go intoJon Favreau’s remake ofThe Lion Kingexpecting to audibly chuckle as a boy-lion watches his father fall to his death in a stampede of wildebeest. That’s not a prediction you just make walking into a theater. There’s nothing inherently humorous about a lion falling off a cliff, or patricide, or fratricide, or rampaging stampedes of wildebeest. I should also mention that I believe this same scene, as depicted in the original 1994Lion King, directed byRoger AllersandRob Minkoff, is one of the most tragic moments in all of film, a scene that taught a young me about loss, about unfairness, and quite frankly about the cold finality of death itself....

In the latest maelstrom of tv series being adapted from famed or cult movies, one of the more promising titles wasThe Lost Boys, which is the latest project under the watchful eye ofiZombieproducerRob Thomas. Thomas has been around for quite some time now, having been a crucial shepherd of beloved series likeParty DownandVeronica Mars; not as many fans stuck around for his work on the abysmal 90210 reboot. Still, his attachment toThe Lost Boysseries immediately gives it an air of respectability, even in a marketplace where TV-to-film adaptations have proven largely insufferable....

AStar Warsactor confidently believes so, asFreddie Prinze Jr., who voiced Kanan Jarrus inStar Wars: Rebels, stated the fact during a recent episode of theLights, Camera, Barstoolpodcast. The so-called “video game movie curse” has struck time and again when even the most talented of filmmakers attempt to bring a video game to the big screen, but 2018’sTomb Raideris one of the rare video game movies that was not only good, but is actually getting a sequel. Hopefully. Directed byRoar Uthaug, the film was an origin story forTomb Raidercharacter Lara Croft with Oscar-winning actressAlicia Vikanderfilling the lead role. The film struck anIndiana Jones-esque tone and while the adventure story had thrilling action, it was also grounded in emotion and character thanks to Vikander’s performance and a plot that found Croft trying to retrace her father’s final steps before his disappearance....

In charge of the many-headed beast that is Paramount and Hasbro’s Writers Room for theTransformersfranchise is Oscar-winning screenwriterAkiva Goldsman(A Beautiful Mind). Since the studio seems happy with the work that’s come out of Goldsman’s think-tank -which could ultimately lead to 12 new moviesbutprobably more like five… or maybe only three - they’ve set him to supervise two more writers rooms for other major movie adaptations based on toy properties.
