Arrowdebuted in 2012, it was hard to imagine that this street-level crime-fighting series would kickstart a shared universe of DC superhero shows. Soon after its premiere, Arrow spun off into a handful of series that includedThe Flash,Black Lightning, andSupergirlin its own universe dubbed theArrowverse. However, since that popular series ended in 2020 after 8 seasons, the Arrowverse has been in a bit of an odd spot. Shows such asStargirlandSuperman & Loishave kept it all going, but there has been a sense in recent months that this television universe is winding down....
Matthew Vaughn’s 2014 action filmKingsman: The Secret Servicewas mostly a blast, and despite a few rough patches (the slaughter at the church, the sex-reward from the princess), it was a nice spin on the spy genre. Vaughn basically made his own version of Bond, and played up the sillier aspects while still making us invested in the hardscrabble protagonist, Eggsy (Taron Egerton). Since spies always have work to do, a sequel seemed like a promising idea, but sadly,Kingsman: The Golden Circleplays like a last-ditch attempt to do everything, and it does very little particularly well....
