In 2015,a studyfrom the Center for the Study of Women in Television & Film found that only 15% of all the films released in 2014 only had female directors, while another report determined that only 9% of the top 250 films in 2015 were helmed by women. Since then, there’s been a massive social movement to fix the gender imbalance in Hollywood, including a federal investigation into the matter. This year, a new survey described as a Black List for female directors has emerged to highlight promising but still untapped female talents....

Last night, the Atlanta Film Critics Circle (AFCC) announced their selection for the year’s top films, performers, and more. As a member of the group, which was founded this year, I was incredibly proud to be among my peers and discuss our selections. I definitely agree with the group’s choice for Best Picture, which wasGet Out. Surprisingly, the group also showed a lot of love towardsDunkirk, and while I can’t really argue, that film hasn’t really stayed with me in the way that others have this year (I do have a bone to pick with peers thatBlade Runner 2049wasn’t recognized for Best Cinematography)....
