After first starring inThe Suicide SquadforJames Gunn,John Cena’s Peacemaker quickly became a fan-favorite character, which warranted a spin-off series on HBO Max. The show was an even bigger hit, garnering acclaim and earning a Season 2 renewal, even lasting the storm of changing leadership as James Gunn took over and formed the DCU.
Creature Commandosmarked the first official DCU project, but the universe launched last month with the release ofSuperman, the first live-action tentpole that introduces fans to several major heroes. Among all the newcomers, fans were stunned to seeJohn Cena cameo inSupermanas Peacemaker, showing up on a talk show to talk a little smack about the Man of Steel. The officialPeacemakersocial media account posted a clip of John Cena breaking his silence on hisPeacemakerSeason 2 return, admitting that he was “called in at the final hour” while he was “preparing forPeacemakerSeason 2.”
Cena has developed a close relationship with James Gunn over the last few years, and he revealed that James reached out to him and asked if he was interested in a small role inSuperman. It was a no-brainer for Cena, and once he gave Gunn the go-ahead, he wrote a role for him on the talk show within the film. It remains unclear whenDavid Corenswetwill return as Superman in the future, but fans can rest assured knowing it’s highly likely their paths will cross someday.
What Do We Know about ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2?
The first episodes ofPeacemakerSeason 2 will be released on August 21, with subsequent episodes dropping every Thursday after that. The show will see John Cena’s Christopher Smithmeet an alternate version of himselfthat seemingly has a better life than him, which forces him to come to terms with all the choices he’s made.
