Pedro Pascal’s big Marvel splash inThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsis finally winding down its run at the box office, but before it arrives on digital platforms, another of his recent movies has stumbled into streaming success. Pascal stars alongsideBen Mendelsohn(Andor) andJay Ellis(Top Gun: Maverick) inFreaky Tales, the R-rated period crime comedy following four interconnected stories in Oakland, CA, in 1987.Freaky Talesrecently began streaming on HBO Maxin the United States, and the film has quickly risen in the ranks to become one of the streamer’s most popular movies.
Freaky Taleswas mostly well-liked by critics and audiences, though that did not help the film find sustained box office success. After debuting with solid scores of 74% from critics and 89% from audiences on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, it grossed only a few million at the box office during a limited release. Another of Pascal’s recent movies,Eddington, also struggled at the box office, and the film hasyet to find success on VOD. In addition to Pascal, Ellis, and Mendelsohn,Freaky Talesalso starsJack Champion, who has broken out to major stardom thanks to his role as Spider inAvatar: The Way of Water.

The duo previously teamed up to directCaptain Marvel, the 2019 superhero film starringBrie Larson. They did not return to direct the 2023 sequel,The Marvels, and were instead replaced by directorNia DaCosta(28 Years Later: The Bone Temple). The duo also recently helmed two episodes of the Apple TV+ WWII series,Masters of the Air.
Pedro Pascal’s Box Office Total is Going to Rise in 2026
Pedro Pascal may not be known as a box office star, but next year, he’s due to star in two movies that are major candidates for financial success. Pascal will reprise his role as Din Djarin inThe Mandalorian and Grogu, which is coming to theaters on August 04, 2025. Pascal will also return to the MCU and play Reed Richards once more inAvengers: Doomsday, which is coming on July 02, 2025. Both films could easily finish the year in the top five highest-grossing movies of 2026.
