Brooklyn rapperRemy Maand her battle-rapping estranged husbandPapoosewere once characters in an urban love story that dreams are made from. Two talented NY rappers finding love in the mean streets of the concrete jungle that usually doesn’t allow for true love made fans wax poetic. The couple gained cross-over hip-hop appeal when Remy Ma was charged with shooting a former friend at a Manhattan nightclub. Although Remy’s case was disappointing, fans found solace in the fact that her loyal man, Papoose, vowed to stay by her side throughout the prison sentence. Papoose stuck by Remy through her time in prison and a beautifully captured reunion once she was released. Ironically, instead of being the couple that continued to set the precedent for an urban Romeo and Juliet story, Remy and Pap ended up becoming the most toxic couple inLove & Hip Hophistory. The two are currently crashing out online for the world’s consumption.
‘Love & Hip Hop’ Showcased the Best of Remy Ma and Papoose’s Love Story
Love & Hip Hopintroduced Remy Ma and Papoose to a national audience. Fans that weren’t aware of their long-time relationship became acclimated with their story on the popular Vh1 franchise. Although Papoose’s popularity and attention derived from his own music dried up before Remy went to prison,he hung on tightly to the fame derived from standing beside his woman in an act of solidarity.
For what he didn’t have in looks or notoriety, he made up for by his perceived fierce protective energy towards his family. The couple got married and even had a baby girl as Remy’s career kept increasing andPapoose settled into being her biggest supporter.Although today’s social climate defines high-value men as top earners, rap fans gave Papoose a pass because he and Remy were together before hip-hop became dedicated to materialism and misogyny. Papoose is from a generation where rap was about lyrical skill, respect and perceived masculinity instead of the more materialistic-driven hip-hop introduced byDiddyand his Bad Boy era, which turned the focus from respect to an extravagant lifestyle complete with designer labels and harems of women.

Their Black Love Persona Quickly Faded
Unfortunately, time would reveal Papoose’s loyalty was as fake as the bodies of today’s Instagram models. Remy Ma was accused of cheating on Pap with another battle rapper namedEasy the Block Captain. He mentioned being with Remy in a song and the urban fairy tale was shattered. The couple startedairing out their dirty laundry on social media, tearing down the beautiful house they’d built brick by brick years ago.
Remy Ma and Papoose’s revered relationship became a disgraced topic of tabloid fodder. Papoose finally responded to the drama by stepping out with a new woman on his arm that was even more popular than Remy. Papoose’s new relationship with heavyweight undisputed ChampionClaressa Shieldsbecame a hot topic as fans pointed out his obvious preference for women with a tough exterior.

One Twitter @MissSassBox posted ‘Papoose has a type and that type is a woman that can beat his ass.’ The thread started trending immediately with @MarqWharton responding, “Pap like to feel safe…” The online banter continued with Remy finally tearing fans last hope for a reunion to shreds by announcing Papoose cheated on her while she was locked up. She even alleged Papoose cooperated with police to have her locked up initially. Fans were heartbroken to learn their hip-hop Bonnie and Clyde representation was a total and complete farce, but things have continued to get worse.
Claressa Shields Reignited the Lover’s Quarrel With Her Recent Interview
With their divorce still up in the air, Papoose’s new boo,Claressa, sat down with the crew ofThe Breakfast Clubto talk about her upcoming boxing match. Of course, the conversation turned to her relationship with Papoose. According to Claressa, she is unmoved by Remy’s accusations and continued negativity. She insisted her relationship with Papoose started after he was already separated from Remy.Triggered by the interview, Remy went LIVE on her social media to straighten up some untruths about her estranged husband.
Remy accused Papoose of being broke and being an opportunist with women. She reasoned with her followers, providing several common-sense points she believed would prove her story. “First of all, if Papoose was such a good man,I would’ve kept him. I ain’t never met a female who has a perfect dude who takes care of her financially, mentally, emotionally, treats you like this wonderful thing, and she says, f*ck this thing? Who does that? Nobody.” she reasoned.

Furthermore, Remy disputed @MisSassBox explanation of her similarities with Claressa. Remy suggested her similarities with Claressa wasn’t their ability to fight, but rather Papoose targeting successful women that he could potentially manipulate and live off of. She referred to Claressa as Papoose’s recent “come up”, stating additionally, “Don’t nobody fall in love more than a person who doesn’t have nowhere to stay.” Remy went on to explain in further detail, “He preys on rich women whose father isn’t present, women who don’t get along with their mom, and he comes in to save her and tell her how amazing she is.”
Twitter Fans Believe Papoose Is Attracted to Tough Women
Claressa woke up the next morning with time on her hands to defend her man. Complex captured her tweets as bragging on her skills and her man. “I fight too good to ever be broke. Pap drives a Benz and got his own place to stay. Everyone knows the houses I got. No need to speak lies when the truth will set you free.” Not one to allow another woman to get the best of her,Remyquickly clapped back on IG stating she would drag her ex and his “comeup” if need be. Remy went to prison years ago for a fight with another female, but instead of fighting with her fists, she resorted to using a gun.
Her past is one of the many reasons fans don’t want to see these two women come to blows over the former battle rapper. Although fans are intrigued by the banter, most are disappointed in both Remy and Papoose for their immaturity in handling what once was revered as a beautiful representation of hip-hop love. Remy shared that Papoose has always cared more about what people think than about the reality of their situation. She claimed she allowedPapoose to oush their black love theme even though she’d broken up with him years ago, because she realized that’s all he had. Mona Scott was ahead of her time booking the couple onLove & Hip Hopyears ago.
Unfortunately, Remy and Papoose are an example of what happens when the high of fame and fortune comes crashing down, andone person is trying desperately to hang on to the former fantasy. In one of her last rants, Remy offered to pay for Papoose’s side of the divorce so they could officially be finished with one another. Since Claressa has boasted about her money and resources, hopefully between the two of them Papoose will be able to finalize his side of the divorce and hip-hop enthusiasts can move on to another couple with a less toxic backstory.
