The CW has announced its premiere dates for 2017, and there are going to be a few shakeups. Let’s go through it day by day: Mondays will remain largely intact withSupergirlandJane the Virgin. Tuesdays,Legends of Tomorrowwill be moving into the post-Flashspot left byNo Tomorrow(after its season finale), whileThe 100returns to Wednesdays afterArrow(as soon asFrequencywraps its first season).
Supernaturalis then taking an early slot on Thursdays at 8 p.m. to lead intoRiverdale, which is a little bit of an odd choice but we’ll go with it.Reignwill then fill that Friday slot afterThe Vampire Diaries(which will end its series run on Friday, March 10th).
In the spring,The Originalswill take over the Friday spot fromThe Vampire Diaries, andiZombiewill kick off with back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, April 4th before settling in to a regular timeslot after theFlash(meaning thatLegends of Tomorrowwill have finished up its extended season).
Got that all straight? It’s interesting that The CW is doubling down onThe FlashandLegendson Tuesdays for a little while, since it has allowed each series to stay on its own day before this. But, withThe Flashbringing the best ratings to The CW, there’ssurely a hope that it might offer a boost to legends if viewers then stick around for it as well. Thursdays will be an interesting night after that swap, too, since usingSupernaturalas a launch series at 8 p.m. forRiverdaleat 9 p.m. (on an already very competitive night) is not an intuitive pairing.
The CW is not afraid to mix up their schedule, this is certain, but we’ll see what that ends up meaning for their ratings this spring.
