Before he was a Fishman,Doug Jonesperformed the space-surfin' subtitle character of 2007’s much malignedFantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Performing the actual dialogue for the Herald of Galactus, however, wasLaurence Fishburne, a recent addition to the MCU proper who will make his debut inAnt-Man and the Wasp. The Marvel Comics character is still well and truly owned by 20th Century Fox, despite the fact that Fox and Disney are in the midst of merger negotiations. However, according to aMetacritic listing, some fans got fired up about the possibility of Silver Surfer scooting into the upcomingAvengers: Infinity War.

In a chat withYahooUK(viaThe Playlist),AvengershelmersAnthony and Joe Russofielded that particular rumor amongst many, many questions regarding the secretive superhero cinematic event. They also teased the “drastic” difference between Phase 3–the current run of MCU films–and the upcoming slate, Phase 4. Oh and for those of you expecting to find out the official title ofAvengers 4soon (I’m still betting onThe New Avengers), Joe has an answer for you there, as well.

Here’s what Joe had to say about Silver Surfer:

“I don’t think we own Silver Surfer, but it’s fan-wish fulfillment and, you know, if this Disney-Fox deal goes through there’s going to be a lot more characters coming into the Marvel universe, so some of those crazy fan theories might come true.”

Joe continued, teasing the changes ahead for Phase 4:

“I think massively different. I think that this is if Marvel has been writing a book for ten years, it’s the end of the book and someone is going to write a new book. Who knows what that new book will be but this is an ending and that’ll be a new beginning.”

And as for thatAvengers 4title … don’t expect to discover what it is at the end ofAvenger: Infinity War:

Movie

“No, no. It’s going to be quite a long while before people see that title. We need people to see this movie, digest this movie, and then we can tell them what the next story is they’re going to see.”

Fans will seeAvengers: Infinity Warstarting April 27th, and for anything beyond that … stay tuned!
