Ryan CooglerandMichael B. Jordanhave been working together for more than 10 years now, and their latest collaboration,Sinners, is due in theaters in just over one month. According to FilmRatings.com,Sinnershas officially been given an R-rating, the first time Coogler has directed an R-rated movie sinceFruitvale Station(2013), the first film he ever directed in his career. After directingFruitvale Station, which also stars Jordan alongsideKevin Durand, Coogler then helmedCreed, theRockyspin-off movie, before stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe to helm theChadwick Boseman-ledBlack Pantherand its sequel,Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Now, more than 10 years removed from his debut, Coogler is returning to his roots and delivering what may well be his most violent film yet.

Michael B. Jordan isn’t the only star Coogler tapped to star inSinners.Hailee Steinfeld, a comic book movie and TV show veteran famous for her work as Gwen Stacy in theSpider-Versemovies and for playing Kate Bishop inHawkeye, will also star as a vampire inSinners. Coogler also recruitedWunmi Mosakufor a role in his new supernatural horror thriller, and Mosaku most recently starred as B-15 in both seasons ofLokibefore also reprising the role inDeadpool & Wolverine.Delroy Lindo, who was previously attached to star oppositeMahershala Aliin Marvel’sBlademovie but was one of the many names to depart the turmoiled project, will also star inSinners.Lola Kirke,Jack O’Connell,Li Jun Li, andOmar Benson Millerwill also star inSinners, which Coogler also wrote in addition to directing.

Ryan Coogler Will Return to Marvel for Two New Projects

Sinnersis the first non-Marvel project Coogler has directed in 10 years, with his last beingCreed, but he will return to the MCU later this year to work on a new project,Eyes of Wakanda.Eyes of Wakandais an animated series premiering on Disney+ on August 6 that will tell the story of different Wakandan warriors throughout history who have traveled around the world retrieving vibranium artifacts from other countries. Coogler is alsoworking onBlack Panther 3, whichDenzel Washingtonis expected to have a role in, but the film is still in theearly stages of developmentand lacks an official release date.

What Else Does Michael B. Jordan Have in the Works?

After he plays both Smoke and Stack inSinners,Michael B. Jordan will also be seen inCreed IV, the fourth installment in his hit boxing franchise. Jordan made his directorial debut onCreed III, with Coogler producing, and he will hop back in the director’s chair for the latest entry. Jordan has also been set tostar oppositeWill SmithinI Am Legend 2, but details about the project are sparse at this time. He will even direct another project,Thomas Crown Affair, whichhe’ll star in alongsideTaylor Russell, and he’s teaming withJohn WickdirectorChad StahelskiforRainbow Six, anotherTom Clancymovie.
