Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming comedySomeone Great, and it looks absolutely delightful. The film is certainly in the vein of a romantic comedy, but with a unique spin that puts the focus squarely on the female lead and her female friendships.Gina Rodriguezstars as an aspiring music journalist living in New York City who lands a dream job opportunity in San Francisco. Rather than giving long-distance a go, her boyfriend of nine years (Lakeith Stanfield) decides to call it quits, so she and her best friends—played byBrittany SnowandDeWanda Wise—live it up in one last outrageous NYC adventure.
This looks to be a film that straddles the line between a traditional romcom and a comedy that speaks to how the world is in 2019. There’s a romantic relationship at the center, but as opposed to a more traditional plotline that would find the woman looking for a rebound boyfriend or new tryst to make him jealous, instead she focuses on her female friendships—which also feels refreshingly true to life. I have no idea how closely the finished product will hew to this, but as a fan of romantic comedies, I have to say this trailer has made meveryeager to check this movie out.
