There’s a newStar Warstrilogy in the works. Writer/producerSimon Kinberg(The Killer’s Game) has signed on to write and produce a new trio of space operas for Lucasfilm.Deadline reportsthat Disney’s parent, Lucasfilm, has no comment on the news.Mike Fleming Jr.reports that there’s conflicting information regarding whether this trilogy of films will serve as episodes ten, eleven, and twelve of the Skywalker Saga that began withGeorge Lucas’Star Warsin 1977, was revisited by Lucas in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the prequel trilogy, and was seemingly concluded with Disney’s sequel trilogy in the 2010s; that may be the case, or it may begin an entirely new saga.
It is also unclear how this will connect with the otherStar Warsfilms Disney has in the pipeline, includingThe Mandalorian and Grogu, a spin-off of the popular Disney+ seriesThe Mandalorian; aNew Jedi Orderfilm directed bySharmeen Obaid-Chinoythat is to starDaisy Ridleyas her sequel trilogy character Rey; andJames Mangold’s filmset in the distant past of theStar Warsgalaxy.

Who Is Simon Kinberg?
Kinberg’s first screenwriting credit came in the 2005Ice Cubeaction sequelXXX: State of the Union. Following that up, he wrote theBrad Pitt/Angelina Jolieaction comedyMr. and Mrs. Smithbefore penningX-Men: The Last Stand. That kicked off a long association between Kinberg and Marvel’s merry mutants, as he also wroteX-Men: Days of Future Past,X-Men: Apocalypse, andDark Phoenix; he made his directorial debut with the latter, as well. Other films he’s written includeJumper,Guy Ritchie’sSherlock Holmes,Josh Trank’sFantastic Four, andThe 355. In the realm of television, he executive producedDesignated Survivor,Jordan Peele’sTwilight Zonereboot, and the recentColin FarrellApple TV+ noir seriesSugar. He also created the science fiction seriesInvasionfor Apple, which was renewed for a third season earlier this year.
This isn’t Kinberg’s first foray into theStar Warsgalaxy. He was brought on by Disney to helpdevelop newStar Warsprojectsafter they acquired Lucasfilm; he was subsequently thanked in the credits ofStar Wars: The Force AwakensandRogue One: A Star Wars Story, and credited as a story consultant on the former. He also co-created the animated seriesStar Wars: Rebels.
