Though the prize for most obvious Halloween costume contest has been split betweenDonald TrumpandMargot Robbie’s Harley Quinn this year, a solid runner-up would have to beMillie Bobby Brown’s Eleven fromStranger Things. It’s not exactly surprising, mind you.Stranger Thingshas been the most talked-about series to air on Netflix arguably since the first season ofDaredevilor the first season ofOrange is the New Black, and the announcement of a second season, which will arrive sometime in 2017, was awaited as if the recipe for a homemade cancer cure was being given out any day now.
To be fair, the entire cast ofStranger Thingsmade for easy costumes this year, but Eleven was inarguably the fan favorite, only challenged by Jason Nawara’srevelatory theorizing aboutJoe Keery’s Steveand his connection to Jean Ralphio inParks & Recreationover at UPROXXX. Keery has already been announced to return as a series regular in Season 2 and now, thanks toTVL, we have confirmation that Brown will be returning to the role of Eleven (or El) in the second season. Netflix has not commented on Brown’s return to the series, or confirmed her involvement, as of yet but sources speaking to TVL seem confident in this announcement and that’s good enough for me at this stage of the game.

It’s looking incredibly likely that most of the cast of the first season will be returning, at this point. Keery andNoah Schnapp’s Will have already been confirmed as returning but Brown’s involvement signals that El’s pre-teen friends will be joining her as well. It wouldn’t make much sense to bring the character back and then not be able to replicate Brown’s winning chemistry with the likes ofFinn Wolfhard,Caleb McLaughlin, andGaten Matarazzo. Then again, this show enjoys its narrative surprises more than most series on television, and though the first season stuck closely to plot turns that one would see inSteven SpielbergandGeorge Lucas' early work, there’s no reason to believe the Duffer brothers won’t get a bit more daring with Season 2.
