However, it seems one of his most recent projects, themusic-themed historical seriesThis Town, hasn’t quite lived up to Knight’s normal standards and now faces the chopping block.
According tonew reports,This Townhas now been officially axed by the BBC following its debut season, despite receiving some positive reception, with a decent 67% critics' score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, joined by an impressive 83% rating from audience members. Alas, this hasn’t proven enough, with the show reportedly receiving just 2.1 million overnight viewers for its premiere, which was then all but halved for the second episode. In light ofThis Town’s cancellation, a spokesperson for the BBC said:
“We’re hugely grateful to Steven Knight, Kudos and the cast and crew for bringing This Town to life – in no small part due to Steven’s passion for the West Midlands. We look forward to working with him on new projects in the future and we’re in talks about what’s next.”
What Does Come Next for Steven Knight?
DespiteThis Town’s cancellation, Knight’s schedule is still packed with plenty of exciting upcoming projects. Firstly, theupcoming movie,The Immortal Man, the supposed final chapter forCillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby, is on its way, with it rumored to receive a late-2025 or early-2026 release without official confirmation. Despite this being Shelby’s last ride, it seems thePeaky Blinderslegacy will continue, with it reported that discussions are ongoing for a seventh season of the famous series to be greenlit.
On top of this, Knight has now been granted arguably the biggest role of his career, and one that many British writers can only ever dream of. Back at the end of July, it was confirmed that Knight would join directorDenis Villeneuveand producersAmy Pascal(Spider-Man: No Way Home) andDavid Heyman(Harry Potter) incrafting the next James Bond movie. Little is currently known about the next chapter for 007, with the actor set to take charge of the famous lead role still a mystery.
