ThoughArrowwas the CW series with all of the showrunner (and cast) shakeups recently, now it’s time for the Arrowverse’s second longest-running show to see some changes.The Flash’s current showrunnerTodd Helbingwill step out of that role and into an overall deal with Warner Bros Television, according toTHR. Helbing took over the series in the wake of the scandal surrounding EPAndrew Kreisberg, who wasfired over sexual harassment allegations.
After serving in that role for two years,Eric Wallace(a co-executive producer on the series since Season 4, whose other credits includeTeen Wolf,Z NationandEureka) will now be promoted to showrunner as Helbing exits. SuperproducerGreg Berlantisaid in a statement: “From his first day onThe Flash, Todd Helbing has been a leader on the show, beloved by the cast and crew for his exceptional talent, vision and wonderful attitude. We are all sad to see him go, but we will all be better for the many shows he will no doubt create and run in the future.Eric Wallace has proven his own exceptional talent and voice since season four, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to watch how he shapes the future of TeamFlashand the many thrilling adventures that lay ahead for our characters and dedicated fans.”
Arrowhas seen a major improvement in its latest season thanks to advent of a new showrunner,Beth Schwartz, so whileThe Flash’s fifth season has brought positive changes over the last two, a swap at the helm could breathe some new life into the series.Arrow, of course, will be concluding next year in a10-episode final season, meaning thatThe Flashwill become the elder statesmen of a DCTV universe that also includesSupergirl,Legends of Tomorrow, and the connected-but-not-fullyBlack Lightning.
