This morning, friends are texting and co-workers are gathering around the water cooler (do they still have those?) to discuss the Season 1 finale ofThe Pitt. TheNoah Wyle-led and executive-produced medical drama has been the talk of the town since it first rode the ambulance onto HBO back in January and, following a stressful and heartfelt first set of episodes, its mark can’t be understated. And yet, audiences around the world have crowned a different title on the network’s top spot. Despite its Season 3 finale coming out nearly one week ago,The White Lotusis comfortably enjoying its run as HBO’s most-watched title around the world. More than 40 countries have launched theMike White-created anthology project to the top of the leaderboard, and it continues to fight off its biggest competitor —The Pitt— even after that grueling and tear-jerking season finale.

The two entries couldn’t be more different. The White Lotusis abouthot, rich people behaving badlywhile on vacation andThe Pittis about hotemployees at a hospitaldoing their best to save lives — truly the furthest thing from a pina colada-filled vacay. Yet,The White Lotus’ success proves that there’s something audiences love about watching the upper 1% living out their best (worst) lives. This season culminated in the wildest — or at least bloodiest — finale yet. To be fair,The Pitt’s Season 1 finale was also pretty brutal, so they at least have that and the hot people aspect in common. If we had a crystal ball or were the gambling type, we’d wager a pretty penny that both titles will be up for quite a few trophies at this year’s award circuit.

‘The White Lotus’ Slow Build To Big Payoff

Yes, there was more than one major twist or plot point that we saw coming before it played out on our screens last Sunday duringThe White Lotus’ Season 3 finale. After all, the seven episodes that came before it wereincredibly slow burning, which gave audiences plenty of time to speculate. Still, the hour-and-a-half finale packed an emotional punch that many could argue was the biggest one we’ve seen yet from the show’s three seasons. With stand-out performances fromWalton Goggins,Carrie Coon,Aimee Lou Wood,Jason Isaacs,Parker Posey, and more, everything landed just the way it was meant to in those final 20 minutes or so.

Head over to Max now to stream both the third season ofThe White Lotusand the first season ofThe Pitt.
