Netflix’sThe Witcherhas capitalized on what was already an enormously popular book and video game series before it became a hit show. The nonlinear format of its first season allowed events to unfold like a puzzle slowly coming together, injecting the premise with added excitement. Once the central cast of characters met up with one another, their fates were inextricably joined. WithThe Witcher Season 2 in the bagand a third on the way, rest assured, we’ll be seeing a lot more of our friend Geralt of Rivia.

Characters crossing time and space to train for a life in the world of magic only to find that the cost of it is a bit greater than they initially knew…might sound a bit familiar to fans of another franchise we could name. With well-developed personalities and incredibly strong wills to back them up, the Sorting Hat would have no trouble placing the cast ofThe Witcherin their respective Hogwarts Houses.
Yennefer - Gryffindor
Yennefer began her arc as a young disabled woman who was treated horribly by the local townspeople. Sent away to the school for mages at Aretuza, she studied under Tissaia, who was harsh but helped her to define a strong personality and the ability to stand on her own.
There is awhole lot of tragedy in Yennefer’s story, but a lot of determination, too. When the other mages refused to take a stand against the invading forces of Nilfgaard with Tissaia, Yennefer allied with her mentor despite their differences. There are plenty of downsides to her tale, but when it matters, Yennefer is never one to back down, and that makes her a Gryffindor through and through.

Geralt - Slytherin
It is often pointed out through the series that Geralt could be a much richer man than he is. Even the song that asks its listener to “toss a coin to your Witcher” acknowledges that he labors for a higher cause while surviving on very little. Despite his ambition and his tendency to take on complicated jobs, he follows his own moral compass above all.

Embodying the absolute best of the House of Slytherin (most of the time), Geralt shows an absolute refusal to play by the rules of others. As many have attempted to use him as a pawn in their games, he seems to have a sixth sense that allows him to turn down jobs that seem ethically ill-advised. Following his own path to the bitter end, Geralt is a Slytherin that defies the corruption of the outside world and seeks a life of coexistence, not integration.
Ciri - Gryffindor
Ciri might have been born a princess, but it hasn’t afforded her many luxuries in life. Losing her parents, watching her grandmother die, barely evading death at the hands of a marauder, and losing any hope of a quiet life, she’s spent much of her life on the run.
Even after they finally meet up, Geralt is hesitant to train Ciri as a Witcher. However, her persistence makes it impossible to deny. It’s clear that there are too few Witchers left in the world, and that there is great evil at play. Ciri knows this all too well, and commits to finding justice, making her an obvious pick for the House of Gryffindor.

Vesemir - Hufflepuff
Known as the “White Wolf,” this gruff trainer of young Witchers might come across as a bit stoic at first. Yet, in theNetflix prequel, The Witcher:Nightmare of the Wolf, viewers got to know him a little better. Showing us his early life as a “lowly servant” who joined the Witchers due to his lack of other options in life, Vesemir left behind his one true love, Illyana, who would later go by the name Lady Zerbst.
Underneath all the swagger, Vesemir desperately missed Illyana, and for nearly seven decades, he could not forget her. Loving her so much that he came the minute she called him even after so much time had passed, the unaged Vesemir rekindled his romance with the now-elderly Illyana. Though they were never able to have a life together, his love for Illyana has stayed with him all his life. That sense of loyalty and a desire for comfort that his life as a Witcher could never provide makes this guy a serious Hufflepuff.

Jaskier - Hufflepuff
Geralt might not want a traveling companion, but the fact is that he greatly benefits from having one around. Though Jaskier isn’t exactly brave and has a tendency to make himself scarce during conflicts, he is integral to building up Geralt’s reputation, which in turn makes it a lot easier for our favorite Witcher to navigate life.

Sure, Jaskier can be a bit annoying (or a lot annoying, if you ask Geralt), but he is nothing if not charismatic. Charming people that Geralt offends and keeping a positive attitude even as he is consistently belittled, this is the classic Hufflepuff who keeps his eye on the prize regardless of the challenges that life drops in his path.
Calanthe - Gryffindor
While it might be good to be the king, it turns out that it’s actually not that great to be the queen. Calanthe is known for being the rare ruler who is unafraid to bold walk into battle ahead of her army, refusing to allow them to undergo threats that she herself would not face. Yet, in the end, her incredible bravery costs her much.
Despite her love for her family, she doesn’t always listen to what others advise, and it is that headstrong nature that would make her quite at home in the House of Gryffindor. Regardless of her faults, Calanthe is a hero, and she deserved better than she got. Watching her kingdom fall clearly destroyed her on a personal level, but with her dying breath, she ensured that Ciri would live on.
Tissaia - Ravenclaw
Tissaia embodies the traits of the House of Ravenclaw in pretty much every way imaginable. She is scholarly, intelligent, powerful, and mysterious. After all, it has been said, if you’re still awaiting yourHogwarts acceptance letter, The Witcher’s Aretuzais a great second choice.
As the headmistress of the school, it falls upon Tissaia to train young mages, which entails her having to occasionally be a bit brutal with the girls that just can’t cut it. Yet, it is exactly that sense of focusing on the goal regardless of the personal cost that helps Yennefer become one of the most powerful mages in the land. Though she can be removed, unsympathetic, and a little mean, there is no doubt that Tissaia would make an excellent addition to the House of Ravenclaw.
