Netflix’s next genre-bending series, starringToni ColletteandTaskmaster’sMae Martin, has finally set a premiere date, set for this fall, after months of keeping fans in suspense.TitledWayward, the eight-episode series marks Collette’s highly anticipated return to thehorrorverseafterAri Aster’s critically acclaimedHereditary.It is created by Martin, who is widely known for winning Season 15 ofTaskmasterand receiving a BAFTA nomination fortheir work on the Channel 4/Netflix comedy seriesFeel Good.
As announced on Thursday, July 31,Waywardwill debut on Netflix on Thursday, September 25. The streamer also released a teaser, giving a glimpse at Collette’schilling roleas the series whisks you to Tall Pines, “a bucolic town with secrets that are anything but pretty.” In addition to creating and starring in the drama, Martin is the co-showrunner and executive producer alongsideRyan Scott.

InWayward, Collette portrays Evelyn Wade, who is seen in the sneak peek below saying to a seemingly troubled teenager in quite a disturbing tone, “Welcome to Tall Pines. We think you’ll be very happy here.” Givenher previous horror role inHereditary, of course, fans can expect nothing short of extraordinary in the upcoming series. The Oscar nominee played the miniature artist Annie Graham in the 2018 psychological horror film, which marked Aster’s feature directorial debut and becameA24’s highest-grossing filmat the time.
‘Wayward’ Focuses on The Troubles of Adolescence
As teased by Netflix,Waywardexplores the sinister secretsthat lurk behind every closed door in the picture-perfect town of Tall Pines. Soon after police officer Alex Dempsey (Martin) moves with wife Laura (Sarah Gadon) to that town, he connects with two students, Abbie (Sydney Topliffe) and Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind) from the local school headed by Collette’s character and for “troubled teens” who are desperate to escape and unearth everything rotten in the town. Other stars attached toWaywardarePatrick J. Adams,Brandon Jay McLaren,Tattiawna Jones,Isolde Ardies,Joshua Close, andPatrick Gallagher, among others.
