HBO has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming drama seriesVinyl. From executive producersMartin Scorsese,Terence Winter, andMick Jagger, the show takes place in 1970s New York and follows a record executive (Bobby Cannavale) trying to keep his label alive as punk, disco, and hip-hop are on the rise, with the series delving deep into the drug- and sex-fueled music business. The show actually began as an idea for a feature film before Scorsese, Winter and Jagger opted to go the longform route and develop it for HBO. The idea has been in place for some time, and as Winter’s drama seriesBoardwalk Empirecame to a close, he segued right intoVinyl, for which he serves as showrunner.
This new trailer takes a closer look at what appears to be the primary band at the center of at least the first few episodes of the show, The Naughty Bits. I’m curious to see ifVinylwill result inGlee-sized iTunes sales for HBO and whether it might become a haven for some really great original music. With Jagger onboard as an executive producer, one imagines they haven’t had trouble finding talented musicians to pitch in on the series.
