Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams will return for the second season of the beloved Netflix series,Wednesday, with its first batch of episodes on August 6. In 2022, the character of Wednesday Addams made a return in Season 1 of the horror series, and it was simply brilliant, becoming an instant hit. Looking aheadto the new season, series lead Ortega believes that her character would take issue with the popularity of the Netflix series. In describing how the titular character might feel,Ortega tells Harper’s Bazaar that Wednesday would probably “hate” the commercializationof the beloved show.

“She doesn’t care,” Ortega says to the outlet about how Wednesday would see fame. “It’s pretty funny, when you think about it. She’s an outsider, butnow she’s on these mugs, cereal boxes, and T-shirts. You’re just thinking, ‘Oh, man,she would hate this!’” The actress goes on to add that the titular character might be a tad too blunt, “I mean, God, if you could speak to everybody like Wednesday – just say what you truly mean – it would be amazing!” The directness of Wednesday Addams is one of several reasons why the character holds so great an appeal.

Despite her desire to be left alone,Wednesday Addams seems to have grown on so many people, becoming a household name and easily recognizable. It’s a feeling that the titular character and Ortega both share. Still very young, Ortega is a bona fide Hollywood star, with roles intheScreamfranchise,Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, andMiller’s Girl, among others. The actress is becoming an icon, just like Wednesday Addams. “I was so stunned that I didn’t really process it. I still haven’t,” Ortega said of being a hit Hollywood star now. “What’s so strange about a character like Wednesday is that Wednesday is an outcast and an outsider – but she’s also a pop-culture icon. So, in a strange way,I feel like I’ve become a pop actor – if that makes sense. And that’s something I never saw for myself.”
