The reboot and remake craze has gotten a little out of control, and news of aZoolandersequel initially seemed like it could be a mistake. It’s been a little over 14 years since the original movie, and a lot about the worldZoolandersatirizes has changed dramatically. ButZoolander 2, directed by starBen Stillerand written by Stiller,Justin Theroux,Nicholas Stoller, andJohn Hamburg, seems to be using that to great effect, bringing Blue Steel and really, really, really,ridiculouslygood-looking people back into our world.
In the new international trailer, we get a lot of the same footage from before (the return ofOwen Wilsonhas Hansel — so hot right now — as well as the introduction of newcomersBenedict CumberbatchandKristen Wiig), but we also get a little more background on Derek being in hiding from the fashion world, as well asPenelope Cruz’s character’s history. Check out the trailer below:

As promoting as I found the initial trailer, this one’s focus on Cruz’s chest size (being used “for safety” as flotation devices, no less. So original, guys … come on), feels a lot less heartening. Sure there’s going to be slapstick and low-brow humor, that’s all part of the major comedy release game. But what made the originalZoolanderso smart and fun was its perceptive tear-down of the fashion and celebrity machine. (For instance, Hansel and Dereks’ reaction to Cruz’s Valentina lamenting that she was a swimsuit model who could never transition is genuinely funny. The flotation device line … not so much).
Still, there are lots of bright spots in the trailer, especially Cumberbatch as the non-gendered “All,” and the return ofWill Ferrellas Mugatu. The film will also featureFred Armisen,Kanye West,Olivia Munn, and a huge slew of celebrity appearances (includingBilly Zane, of course).

Zoolander 2is scheduled for release February 12th, 2016.Here’s the super-informative official synopsis:
